The Global project, funded under CEF Transport, aims at supporting the expansion and further increase of the Northern Adriatic Sea route, with the coordinated effort of the North Adriatic Port Association (NAPA), set up in 2010 among the Italian and Croatian port authorities.
The action concerns four NAPA ports, namely Ravenna, Venezia, Trieste and Koper. It consists of studies aiming to improve maritime accessibility, increase the intermodality of transport between rail and the maritime modes and, specifically for Trieste and Ravenna, to prepare for the installation of On-shore Power Supply (OPS) for ships at berth. The studies include cost benefit analyses, environmental studies, as well as preliminary, final and executive designs, which are necessary to start infrastructure works such as dredging, upgrading or building new quays, construction of new berths and creating railways connections.
In the long term, the action will increase maritime accessibility and the hinterland connections of the North Adriatic Ports, thus improving traffic flows to and from Central and Eastern Europe. Based on the results of the action, the ensuing works will have a positive environmental impact, reducing the externalities of maritime transport (noise, air emissions including GHG) by installing OPSs in two of the ports. https://ec.europa.eu/inea/en/connecting-europe-facility/cef-transport/2020-eu-tm-0055-s
